Coroner Identifies Calgary Girl Naziha Mohammed Who Died In B.C. Lake During Camping Trip

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 22 Aug, 2015 01:11 PM
OSOYOOS, B.C. — A 12-year-old Calgary girl who presumably drowned during a wading accident in British Columbia's southern Okanagan has been identified.

The B.C. Coroners Service says Naziha Mohammed was walking with friends on the west side of Osoyoos Lake  when she lost her footing and slipped into rough waters.

Police have said she couldn't swim and wasn't wearing a life jacket.

The coroner says Mohammed's friends went for help and that searchers found her body half an hour later in about two metres of water.

The girl, who was camping with her family at a provincial park, was taken to hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arrival Monday.

The coroners service and police are continuing their investigations.
