Crews Partly Contain Wildfire South Of Lytton, B.C., On Fourth Day Of Blaze

The Canadian Press, 15 Jun, 2015 10:49 AM
LYTTON, B.C. — Firefighters have made headway over the weekend in the battle against a wildfire raging in British Columbia's Fraser Valley.

The B.C. Wildfire Management Branch says crews have contained about 20 per cent of the 13-square-kilometre blaze, burning just south of Lytton, B.C.

One home has been destroyed in the flare-up and the Lytton First Nation has issued an evacuation order for about 10 others.

Additional properties in Lytton First Nation and the Thompson-Nicola Regional District are on evacuation alert.

Over the next four days, crews will conduct controlled burns around the fire to slow its spread.

Ninety-four firefighters, 10 helicopters and five pieces of heavy equipment have been brought in to respond to the blaze.
