Cross-examination Of Crown's Key Witness Continues At Trial For Patrick Brazeau

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 25 Mar, 2015 10:46 AM

GATINEAU, Que. — The defence lawyer for suspended senator Patrick Brazeau is continuing his cross-examination of the Crown's key witness today at his client's criminal trial.

Brazeau is facing charges of assault and sexual assault arising from an alleged incident two years ago.

The female complainant, whose identity is protected by a publication ban, has alleged that Brazeau pushed her down some stairs, spat in her face, forcefully grabbed her breast and sexually assaulted her.

On Tuesday, Brazeau's attorney Gerard Larocque challenged the woman's credibility, saying she kept authorities in the dark about some details of the February 2013 incident.

She acknowledged ripping a necklace off her own neck during the incident — a detail she never reported in statements to authorities — and having used a fake passport to travel to Canada.

The trial by judge alone is expected to continue past Wednesday, but the next court date has yet to be scheduled.
