Deadly shooting in Edmonton

Police say they won't be laying charges in a deadly shooting in Edmonton this week because the suspect killed himself.

Officers were called Monday to a shooting in the city's southwest where they found two men dead.

Another man was found injured and was taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries.

Police say an autopsy shows the victim, 56-year-old Buta Singh, died from a gunshot wound.

The suspected shooter, who was 49, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound but has not been named.

Police say they're checking to see if the shooting is connected to a string of extortion schemes targeting homebuilders in the city's South Asian community.

The RCMP said in February it had established a national team to co-ordinate investigations into such extortion schemes in B.C., Alberta and Ontario.

Spike expected in homes sales in 2024

Homes sales in the province are forecast to increase this year by 7.8 per cent, in what the B-C Real Estate Association says will be a delicate balance for the market.
