Death Of Dog Leads To Nearly Three-hour Standoff With Police In Victoria, B.C.

  • Death Of Dog Leads To Nearly Three-hour Standoff With Police In Victoria, B.C.

VICTORIA - A dog is dead and a man is in custody on Vancouver Island but Victoria police say few other details about the case have been confirmed.

A statement from the police department says officers were called late Monday afternoon about a report of an incident between a man and dog.

The dog was dead by the time officers arrived, and the man had returned to a suite in a nearby building and was refusing to leave.

The statement says the man was unco-operative and investigators assisted by a crisis negotiator tried for almost three hours to coax him out of the suite.

When he finally left the unit at around 7 p.m., police say the man refused to comply with directions and was subdued by several less-lethal projectiles fired from an ARWEN gun.

He was checked in hospital and remains in custody but no charges have been laid while investigators try to determine what led to the death of the dog and the subsequent confrontation with officers.
