Decision postponed in Amanda Todd case

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 13 Jul, 2023 01:06 PM
  • Decision postponed in Amanda Todd case

Carol Todd says she's angry that a Dutch court has postponed a decision on sentencing for the man convicted of harassing and extorting her daughter so relentlessly that the 15-year-old died by suicide in 2012.

Dutch judges have been considering how to convert the 13-year sentence imposed on Aydin Coban by a B-C court into a term that meshes with the Dutch legal system -- and it's possible he could serve about 4-and-a-half years for his crimes against Amanda Todd.

Carol Todd says she has been told the judges want more detail about exactly when Coban would have been released if he had served his sentence here -- and a date for a decision on his sentence has not been set.

Todd says Amanda's story brought sextortion and cyber abuse to the mainstream so it's important Coban serve time -- and she's optimistic the delay means the judges could be mulling a term longer than the minimum.
