Dewdney Slough Bridge Near Mission, B.C., Partially Opened With Lower Speed Limit

The Canadian Press, 21 Sep, 2015 12:11 PM
MISSION, B.C. — A bridge east of Mission, B.C., has partially opened after four days of maintenance that forced commuters to take a 60-kilometre detour.

The Transportation Ministry says crews worked around the clock to replace a damaged steel cap in the weakened Dewdney Slough Bridge.

It says single-lane alternating traffic is now getting through as work continues to reinforce the concrete structure on Highway 7.

Minor delays are expected, with a 30-kilometre-an hour speed limit and a 17,000-kilogram load restriction.

The ministry says drivers with loads exceeding that weight may detour along Highway 1, using either Highway 11 via Mission from the west or Highway 9 through Agassiz from the east.

The bridge is expected to reopen to two-lane traffic and normal load limits by the end of the week.
