The Independent Investigations Office is investigating after a man died following an interaction with police Monday morning.
Vancouver Police responded shortly before 8 a.m. Monday after a man was seen acting erratically near East Hastings Street and Dunlevy Avenue.
Following an interaction with police, the man was taken into custody. He then went into medical distress and lost consciousness.
Despite life-saving attempts, the man died at the scene.
The campaign, which is to begin today and run until March 18, will see the government match donations by Canadians dollar for dollar to a maximum of $10 million, says a senior government official who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss matters not yet public.
