Driver strikes a pole in 152nd Street area of Surrey, road closures in effect

Surrey RCMP is investigating a single vehicle collision in the area of 152^nd street and 62a Avenue.

On Wednesday at approximately 6:30am, Police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision, into a power pole, at the intersection of 152^nd street and 62a avenue.

A vehicle was travelling north bound on 152 street when the driver lost control and struck a power pole, severely damaging it.

The 30 year old male driver of the white SUV was transported to a local area hospital with minor injuries.

Traffic will be shut down on the 152 street corridor, from 60^th to 64^th avenue, for several hours, as BC Hydro assesses the damage and mitigates the hazard of the downed pole.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area and find another route for their morning commute.

The exact cause of the collision is still under investigation but initial indications are that it is not criminal in nature.

Anyone with more information, including dash cam footage around the area of 152^nd street between 0620 and 0640, is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.

According to Mounties, one residence in the area was hit by gunfire. The residence was occupied at the time of the incident but no gunshot injuries occurred. The victims are cooperating with the police investigation.

The cause of death remains under investigation. Evidence indicates the woman died prior to the fire starting. Vancouver Police are working with the BC Coroners Service to identify the woman.

Environment Canada says anywhere from 15 to 25 centimetres is expected at higher elevations of the passes north and east of Hope by Tuesday morning.
