Drug-Impaired Driver Arrested After Driving Into Local Business

Darpan News Desk Victoria Police, 25 Oct, 2021 03:02 PM
  • Drug-Impaired Driver Arrested After Driving Into Local Business

Officers arrested a suspected drug-impaired driver late last night after he drove into a local business in The Bay Centre.

Shortly before 11 p.m. on Sunday, October 24th, Patrol officers responded to a report that a vehicle had collided with a local business in the 1100-block of Douglas Street. Officers attended and located a vehicle which had driven into a storefront in The Bay Centre.

The driver of the vehicle ignored police direction and attempted to flee the scene. Officers deployed a Conducive Energy Weapon (CEW) and withdrew the man from the vehicle, where he continued to resist arrest and was taken to the ground. Officers arrested the man without further incident.

Based on the man’s behaviour, officers believed that he was impaired by drugs. Officers attempted to administer the Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST), however the man reported non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services Paramedics for medical treatment and for additional investigation.

He was later released with a 24-hour driving prohibition pending further investigation into drug-impaired driving. No one else was injured as a result of this incident.
