Drugs Including Morphine Seized Within Maximum Security Donnacona, Que., Prison

The Canadian Press, 25 Jul, 2015 01:55 PM
DONNACONA, Que. — Guards at the maximum-security Donnacona penitentiary seized a large stash of drugs, including morphine, within the Quebec City-area prison this week.

Correctional officers first intercepted a package containing more than 20 grams of morphine beads on July 21. The following day, 21 grams of synthetic THC and Fentanyl were seized.

In both cases, provincial police were informed and the inmates may face criminal charges.

The Correctional Service of Canada issued a statement Friday saying it is heightening measures to prevent and detect contraband.

Existing measures include a tip line, ion scanners and drug-detecting dogs.
