Early Morning Shooting In Surrey; Police Investigate As Chased Vehicle Slams Into Post

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 07 May, 2015 09:56 AM
SURREY, B.C. — There has been more gunfire in Surrey, B.C., bringing the number of shootings in the area to more than two dozen since early March.

RCMP say they received numerous calls about shots being fired from a gold car at another vehicle just before 2:30 a.m. on 68th Avenue near 123rd Street.

Police say the second vehicle fled but lost control and slammed into a post before the gold car pulled up behind it and someone inside started firing more shots.

Officers say the driver of the crashed vehicle — a Surrey man in his 20s who is known to police — was able to run away uninjured and the gold car drove off.

Mounties are investigating but haven't said whether the shooting is related to a number of others in the city east of Vancouver and neighbouring Delta.

Investigators have connected many of the recent shootings to an escalating gang war involving territory and the low-level drug trade.
