Edmonton Man Dies In Highway 63 Crash

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 25 Oct, 2014 12:14 AM
WANDERING RIVER, Alta. - An 18-year-old man is dead after his SUV collided head-on with a semi truck in a crash that forced the closure of the main highway between Edmonton and the oilsands region.

RCMP say Highway 63 was closed in both directions near Wandering River for much of Friday afternoon.

Police say the driver of the SUV, who was from Edmonton, died of his injuries en route to hospital.

Investigators believe his vehicle crossed the centre line on an undivided section of the highway before crashing into the northbound truck.

Police say the highway has reopened, but traffic is moving slowly through the area.

Earlier this month Premier Jim Prentice promised that Highway 63 — known as "Death Highway'' for the high number of fatal collisions over the years — will be twinned by the fall of 2016.
