Edmonton Woman Who Purchased Lotto Ticket On A Whim Picks Up $21 Million Prize

The Canadian Press, 27 Jul, 2016 12:55 PM
EDMONTON — An Edmonton woman who purchased a lottery ticket on a whim while buying milk has picked up a cheque for almost $21 million.

Bogumila Mroczkowski won the money in the April 30 Lotto 6/49 draw but chose to accept her winnings on Tuesday.

Mroczkowski says she doesn't usually buy lottery tickets.

She says when she scanned her ticket she was shocked and asked her husband to recheck the numbers.

Mroczkowski says she will retire and consider what to do with her fortune.

She says she will spend some of the money helping out family, buying a newer house and travelling.

"We probably checked the ticket 20 or more times before claiming our prize," she said.

"I felt everything – surprise, disbelief, happy, scared, everything."
