Embattled Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger Wins A Round

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 15 Nov, 2014 03:06 PM
  • Embattled Manitoba Premier Greg Selinger Wins A Round
WINNIPEG - Manitoba's embattled premier, Greg Selinger, has won a round in the battle over his leadership.

The provincial NDP executive has agreed to Selinger's call for a leadership contest at the party's annual convention March 6.

Selinger has faced an open revolt from some members of his caucus and the party, who have called on him to resign.

Selinger says he is staying put and anyone who wants to challenge him can run against him in March.

The executive has agreed to the idea instead of having a leadership race earlier.

The party has struck a committee to work out details of the leadership race, such as whether candidates will be allowed to retain their cabinet positions.

Five former cabinet ministers who challenged Selinger's leadership resigned from their posts earlier this month, but remain in caucus.
