Ex-Justice Minister To Defend Daughter Of Former Top Bureaucrat In Murder Case

The Canadian Press, 24 May, 2016 11:55 AM
ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — A Newfoundland woman accused of first-degree murder is the daughter of the province's former top civil servant who will be defended by a former justice minister.

Anne Norris, 28, was charged earlier this month after the body of Marcel Reardon was found under the stairwell of a St. John's apartment building.

Police say Reardon and Norris knew each other and that officers recovered a weapon that's believed to be involved.

The father of the accused, Gary Norris, retired from the civil service in 2010 while in its top post -- clerk of the executive council and secretary to cabinet.

Anne Norris appeared via video link from jail today to set May 31 for a status update.

Former justice minister Jerome Kennedy says he took on the case in part because he knows the Norris family.
