Family Thanks Stranger Who Donated Liver To Three-Year-Old Kingston Girl

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 21 Apr, 2015 12:33 PM
TORONTO — The father of three-year-old Kingston, Ont., twins who underwent potentially life-saving liver transplants couldn't hold back tears as he thanked the anonymous donor who made the surgery possible for the second girl.

Michael Wagner could only donate part of his liver to his daughter Phuoc and the family had appealed for a second donor for her twin sister Binh.

The family announced Monday that the surgery had taken place, but the timing is being kept secret to protect the donor's privacy.

In a news conference Tuesday, Wagner expressed the family's gratitude to the stranger who "put their life on hold for someone they never met and changed our lives forever."

A doctor from Sick Kids hospital says Binh is recovering well despite experiencing some medical issues after the surgery.

Phuoc went through the same surgery in February.

The girls suffer from Alagille syndrome, a genetic disorder that affects vital organs, and doctors have said they would die without a liver transplant.
