Fatal Overdose Call Leads To Discovery Of Suspected Drug Lab In East Vancouver

The Canadian Press, 26 Aug, 2018 04:38 PM

Just before 2 a.m. Saturday, Vancouver Police were called to investigate a sudden death, due to an apparent drug overdose, in an apartment on Rhodes Street near East 41st Avenue.

First responders recognized signs of possible drug production taking place in the apartment. The Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services Hazmat Team examined the suite and determined there was no imminent risk to the safety of residents in the building at that time.

The 35-year-old deceased man was a resident of the apartment. His death is not considered suspicious.

The apartment was guarded by police while the investigation continued and a search warrant was obtained. Members of the VPD are now executing that search warrant and working with specially trained RCMP officers to collect evidence and to ensure the safety of other residents.

Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services Hazmat Team will be at the location to assist where required.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is in its early stages.
