  • Firefighters Extinguish Small Wildfire Near West Kelowna, B.C.
WEST KELOWNA, B.C. — A fire that forced evacuations of several homes near West Kelowna, B.C., has been quickly extinguished.

The Central Okanagan Regional District says evacuations for nine addresses along Scott Crescent and Spyglass Way were rescinded Friday afternoon.

The fire started in a forested area just before noon Friday morning.

Fire information officer Melissa Klassen says the BC Wildfire Service was called in to help local firefighters battle the blaze.

Crews and a helicopter were sent to help with the initial attack and two air tankers dropped retardant in the area to help stop the flames from spreading.

Klassen says the fire was estimated to be less than a hectare in size, and was not considered to be an aggressive wildfire.
