Forecasters warn of heavy snowfall, blizzard conditions for Maritimes

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 26 Jan, 2015 10:30 AM

HALIFAX — Parts of the Maritimes are bracing for a potent winter storm that could bring heavy snowfall and powerful winds.

The storm is expected to settle into the region overnight Monday and into Tuesday, bringing up to 30 centimetres of snow.

Environment Canada has issued weather warnings for P.E.I., Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, saying blizzard conditions with poor visibility are expected Tuesday.

It says snow will be heavy overnight with northeast winds gusting up to 90 kilometres an hour.

Politicians and weather officials in the U.S. said the low pressure system threatened to bury communities from northern New Jersey to southern Maine in just under a metre of snow.

The National Weather Service said the nor'easter would bring heavy snow, powerful winds and widespread coastal flooding through Tuesday.

A blizzard warning was issued for a 400-kilometre stretch of the Northeast, including New York and Boston.
