Garima Goswami, Darpan, 07 Mar, 2014 03:49 PM

A former mountie has been arrested after the RCMP recorded sexual assaults on eight teenagers that occurred in the 1970s and early 1980s spanning over three provinces- Alberta, BC and Saskatchewan.

RCMP arrested the 58-year-old man in Calgary Thursday and as per a news conference held in BC Friday morning, Alan John Davidson, served as a minor hockey and baseball coach in the Thompson Okanagan region of BC at the time of the alleged assaults.

"I'm here today to seek your assistance and announce the arrest and charge of 58-year-old Alan John Davidson in connection to all allegations of sexual assault of minors in the 1970s and early 1980s," said BC RCMP Superintendent, Brendan Fitzpatrick.

The investigation commenced in 2012 when an adult male came forward and reported to the RCMP that he was allegedly sexually assaulted by his minor hockey coach. Further, the male also indicated that there is a possibility that others on his team were also assaulted by the coach.

Additionally, the police stated that the alleged incident occurred before Davidson took over the role of a police officer.

Davidson who now lives in Calgary is scheduled to appear in a court in Kamloops on April 3, 2014.
