SEPT-ILES, Que. — Quebec provincial police say a freight train with one person aboard has plunged into a river after derailing on the province's North Shore.

Spokesman Claude Doiron says the train is partially submerged in the Moisie River.

Doiron could not confirm a report that the derailment was caused by a landslide.

The accident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. ET near Sept-Iles, about 900 kilometres from Montreal.

Emergency crews are heading toward the scene, which is located in a very inaccessible area.
