Government To Open New Shelter Spaces In Kamloops, B.C., As Cool Weather Arrives

The Canadian Press, 07 Oct, 2018 10:05 PM
VANCOUVER — The British Columbia government is opening additional shelter spaces in Kamloops for people to access as cooler weather arrives.

The provincial housing and municipal affairs ministry says in a news release it will open approximately 30 short-term beds next month.

The Canadian Mental Health Association will operate the building and provide residents with support to help them transition into more permanent housing.

The province says it's an interim measure until new, permanent supportive housing is available.

A national "point-in-time" count earlier this year found 201 people experiencing homelessness in Kamloops.

In January, the province and City of Kamloops partnered to develop two new permanent supportive housing developments.
