Heavy snow forecast for B.C. Interior, with Coquihalla Highway expecting up to 60cm

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 25 Feb, 2026 10:14 AM
  • Heavy snow forecast for B.C. Interior, with Coquihalla Highway expecting up to 60cm

Motorists planning to travel between British Columbia's Lower Mainland and the province's Interior are being warned to brace for a "long duration" of heavy snowfall that's likely to disrupt travel on the Coquihalla Highway.

Environment Canada says in a snowfall warning that the stretch of the highway linking Hope and Merritt could see up to 60 centimetres of snow lasting into Friday as a frontal system passes through.

The agency says the system is set to create high winds and instability in its wake, including the heavy snowfall that will likely make the road difficult to navigate.

The system has also generated a wind warning in the Fraser Canyon, with gusts as high as 90 kilometres an hour forecast to last into Thursday.

Similar winds are also expected in the Stuart-Nechako region west of Prince George and in the southern Peace region including Fort St. John, Dawson Creek and Tumbler Ridge, with the latter region also expecting snow squall conditions.

In addition to the Coquihalla, Highway 1 from Sicamous to Golden has also been issued a snowfall warning with up to 25 centimetres of snow on the road in the forecast into Thursday.
