Canada's annual inflation rate was 1.7 per cent in April, Statistics Canada says. Here's what happened in the provinces (previous month in brackets):

— Newfoundland and Labrador: 0.4 per cent (1.1)

— Prince Edward Island: 0.6 per cent (1.8)

— Nova Scotia: 1.3 per cent (2.3)

— New Brunswick: 0.2 per cent (1.9)

— Quebec: 2.2 per cent (1.9)

— Ontario: 1.6 per cent (2.3)

— Manitoba: 2.1 per cent (3.0)

— Saskatchewan: 1.9 per cent (2.5)

— Alberta: 1.5 per cent (2.8)

— British Columbia: 2.0 per cent (2.6)
