Highway 99 in Richmond will be closed overnight for construction work on the Steveston Interchange project.
The B-C Transportation Ministry says in a statement the highway will be shut down in both directions starting 11 p-m and ending Saturday at 4:30 a-m.
Officials say local access for emergency responders and residents will be maintained during construction.
The ministry says the closure is necessary to facilitate the movement of heavy machinery needed for the project across the highway.
Smoke had also started spreading to the Whistler, Howe Sound and Sunshine Coast areas, causing variable but hazy conditions, the weather agency said Thursday. It said smoke impacts may be worse at higher elevations in the Okanagan, but rain may provide some relief.
