Homicide Detectives In B.C. Seek Witnesses In Slaying Of Belgian Traveller

  • Homicide Detectives In B.C. Seek Witnesses In Slaying Of Belgian Traveller
SURREY, B.C. — A 28-year-old Belgian woman has been identified as the person found dead in British Columbia's Fraser Canyon last month.

Detectives with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team say Amelie Sakkalis was found dead on Aug. 22 as police responded to reports of a suspicious occurrence near the community of Boston Bar.

Police have not revealed how she died.

Investigators said in late August that the death was not random, but a man arrested at the scene was later released from police custody.

A news release from the homicide team says police believe Sakkalis was hitchhiking from the Penticton area toward Vancouver on the day she died.

Cpl. Frank Jang says relatives of Sakkalis have been notified and detectives would now like to speak to anyone who may have given her a ride between Penticton and Boston Bar.
