Homicide Team Probing 'Targeted' Death Of Gavinder Grewal In North Vancouver, B.C.

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 25 Dec, 2017 11:21 AM

VANCOUVER — Homicide detectives say they are investigating after a man was found dead in a home in North Vancouver, B.C.

Police say RCMP officers were called Friday night after the 30-year-old man's body was discovered in an apartment.

The Integrated Homicide Investigations Team was called in when the death was deemed suspicious and they have taken the lead on the case.

The victim has been identified as Gavinder Grewal, who police say was associated with gang activity.

The Integrated Homicide Investigations Team says in a release that Grewal's death is believed to be targeted and linked to other gang violence in the Lower Mainland.

“Mr. Grewal was affiliated to gang activity so right now we’re working with our partners from CFSEU (Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit) as well as the local gang-enforcement units to exactly find out what his current affiliations were,” Jang said.

“His background will be part of the investigation, obviously.”

Cpl. Frank Jang says there are people who knew Grewal who may have information that could help police solve the homicide, and they are encouraged to contact police.

"We believe that Mr. Grewal's murder was targeted and associated to other gang violence in the Lower Mainland," Jang said at a press conference.

Anyone with information about the killing is asked to contact IHIT at 1 877 551 4448 or Crime Stoppers at 1 800 222 8477.
