How Canada's Contributions Of Financial Aid To Syria Will Be Spent

The Canadian Press, 13 Apr, 2016 01:37 PM
OTTAWA — On Tuesday, the Liberal government announced it would match $32 million donated by Canadians for Syrian relief efforts. The matching program had seen the government promised to match up to $100 million so the Liberals are pledging an additional $68 million to make up the difference.

Here is a look at some of the programs the $100 million in total will fund:

$31.8 million for UNICEF: to support 84 youth education centres in Jordan, school supplies and learning materials inside Syria and a national immunization campaign there as well.

$23.35 million for projects in Syria: food assistance, access to essential primary care services, clean water and sanitation, helping farmers restore their farms.

$33.5 million for projects in Iraq: funding for displaced people living in camps, water and sanitation assistance, health care, support for people with disabilities, and mental health services.

$11.35 million for projects in Jordan and Lebanon: increasing access to reproductive health care, support for women to build sustainable livelihoods, support for survivors of sexual violence, and improving access to basic health care.
