  • IHIT identifies Surrey taxi shooting passenger as David Chavez-Jara

Police in Surrey are investigating a fatal shooting in a taxi parking lot in the 14800 block of 108 Avenue that happened Tuesday afternoon around 2:30pm.

Mounties said the passenger who died has been idenified as 30 year old David Chavez-Jara of Surrey. Chavez-Jara was well known to police and was recently convicted on Possesion for the Purpose of Trafficking. 

“Investigators believe Mr. Chavez-Jara was the target of this senseless act,” said Sergeant Timothy Pierotti of IHIT. “IHIT is committed to working with our law enforcement partners as well as partners in the community to find those responsible and hold them accountable before they can hurt others."

IHIT is asking that any witnesses or anyone with dash camera video who were in the 14800 block of 108 Avenue between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. or who has any information regarding the shooting.
