IHIT investigating homicide in Surrey

  • IHIT investigating homicide in Surrey

On Wednesday night  at 11:15 p.m., the Surrey police responded to a report of a man in medical distress inside his residence in the 18800-block of 76 Avenue, Surrey.  

The police found the 47-year-old man having sustained life-threatening injuries. First responders performed emergency first aid, but the victim did not survive. 

IHIT has now taken over the investigation. 

“We are still in the early stages of the investigation,” says Sergeant Timothy Pierotti of IHIT. “Officers have been working throughout the night to locate witnesses who could help shed light on this situation. At this time the motive is unknown, but it believed there are no ties to the lower mainland gang conflict.”

Investigators have identified the victim, who is not being named at this time as investigators work to notify the family.

If there were any witnesses or anyone traveling in the 18800 block of 76 Avenue, Surrey between 9:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m. with dash cameras, please contact IHIT.

Shortly after 7 a.m., in the area of 142A St and 87A Ave, a Surrey RCMP Frontline officer located a man matching the description of the suspect and a foot pursuit ensued. During the course of the foot pursuit there was a confrontation and the police officer fired their weapon striking the man. First-aid was provided and he was transported to hospital where he later died.
