IIO To Determine Whether Kamloops RCMP Played A Part In Tuesday Motorcycle Crash

    The BC RCMP have notified the Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) of a motor vehicle incident in Kamloops which resulted in the driver sustaining serious injuries.


    At approximately 4:20 p.m. on September 3, 2019, a member of the Kamloops Traffic Services conducting speed enforcement on Westsyde Road, observed a motorcycle travelling towards him in violation of the posted speed limit. The officer activated his lights and siren, turned his patrol car around in an attempt to initiate a traffic stop.


    Soon after, the police officer located the motorcycle further down the road at a collision with a pickup truck. The male driver of the motorcycle was transported to hospital, suffering from serious injuries. The individuals in the truck were uninjured.


    The scene of the collision with the pickup truck was examined by the Kamloops Municipal Traffic Services and has been completed. Their investigation into this portion of the incident is ongoing. Police are asking for any witnesses or individuals with information that could assist in this investigation to please contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and reference file #2019-30648.


    IIO BC is investigating to determine whether police actions or inactions are linked to the man’s injuries. As the matter is now under investigation by the IIO BC, no further information will be released by police.
