Indo-Canadian Cabbie Amritpal Singh Surrenders In Toronto, Booked For Molesting Woman

Darpan News Desk IANS, 14 Oct, 2015 12:37 PM
An Indian-origin Uber cab driver, accused of sexually assaulting a woman last September, has surrendered before police here, a media report said.

Toronto police on Monday charged Amritpal Singh, 24, with forcible confinement and sexual assault in a September 15 case, The Voice daily reported on Tuesday.

Singh was employed as a driver with Uber cab service company. On the night of September 15, a 25-year-old woman boarded his cab from Toronto's Eglinton Avenue area for Lawrence Avenue.

The woman was allegedly sexually assaulted in the vehicle around 1 a.m. (local time). She also suffered minor injuries and reported the incident to police shortly after.

"This is the first report of a sexual assault involving an Uber driver in the city," police said earlier.

Upon learning of the allegations, Uber immediately removed the driver from its service.
