Innocent Female Bystander Shot In Brazen Daylight Drive-By Shooting In Surrey, B.C.

The Canadian Press, 10 Jul, 2017 10:18 AM
Surrey Police say a woman was the "unintended victim" of a shooting between two suspects in a residential neighbourhood on the 7700-block of 147A Street

"This particular instance we came very, very close to a catastrophe," Sgt. Dale Carr said. "We're very fortunate that the injury is a minor injury but for the grace of God, you know, she's not harmed worse."

When officers arrived at the scene on 147A Street near 76th Avenue, they found a woman whose back had been grazed by a bullet.

Carr said she was in a vehicle with other people, possibly as a passenger, when she was shot.

She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

"We have spoken numerous times about an incident like this," Carr said. "This is very concerning behaviour to both the police and the community of Surrey."

Investigators believe the intended victims left the scene in the black Hyundai. The vehicle was last seen with damage to its front end—its front bumper had fallen off.

The suspects fled in a red pickup truck. Later, that vehicle was torched in the 9000-block of 150 Street. Police said that witnesses reported seeing two men fleeing the area.

Surrey RCMP are asking that anyone who who may have witnessed this event or witnessed the males fleeing from the area call 604-599-0502 or to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca.
