Inquest Into Deaths Of First Nations Youth To Get Underway In Thunder Bay

    THUNDER BAY, Ont. — An inquest is set to begin today into the deaths of seven First Nations youth in northern Ontario.
     
    They ranged in age from 15 to 21 and all left their remote communities to pursue a high school education.
     
    Jethro Anderson, Curran Strang, Robyn Harper, Paul Panacheese, Reggie Bushie, Kyle Morrisseau and Jordan Wabasse all died while studying in Thunder Bay, Ont. between 2000 and 2011.
     
    The inquest, which is taking place in Thunder Bay, will be examining the circumstances around their deaths.
     
    It's expected to hear from about 200 witnesses.
     
    The jury at the inquest may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths in the future.
