Into the wild: Yellowknife RCMP believe missing Japanese tourist in bush

The Canadian Press , 31 Oct, 2014 02:35 PM
YELLOWKNIFE — RCMP suspect a missing Japanese tourist may be trekking in the wilderness north of Yellowknife.

Atsumi (at-SOO'-mee) Yoshikubo (yosh-EE'-koo-boh) was last spotted nine days ago walking along a highway outside the city.

Staff at a Yellowknife hotel reported the 45-year-old missing after she failed to check out of her room.

RCMP say there is no indication of foul play.

Const. Elenore Sturko can't say why officers believe Yoshikubo is travelling through the bush, but she adds Mounties hope to find her alive.

She says police plan to search the area with an airplane equipped with infrared technology that can detect body heat.
