Investigation Planned After Salmon Arm, B.C. Student Severely Hurt In Shop Accident

    SALMON ARM , B.C. — An investigation is getting underway in the North Okanagan-Shuswap school district after a serious accident in a secondary school shop class.
     
    Superintendent Glenn Borthistle says it happened Tuesday afternoon in one of the shops at the Jackson campus of Salmon Arm Secondary in Salmon Arm, B.C.
     
    The school is just a few blocks from the local hospital, but the injury was so severe that the student was airlifted for treatment at a larger centre.
     
    The student's condition was not immediately available.
     
    Borthistle says shop accidents are very rare in School District 83.
     
    In a release issued Tuesday, he says the cause will be thoroughly investigated and all thoughts are with the student and the student's family.
