Invictus Games 2025 medals unveiled in Vancouver

Organizers of the 2025 Invictus Games, which kick off next weekend in Vancouver, have unveiled the medals that will be awarded to athletes over the nine days of competition.

The charity says in a news release that the 462 medals were designed by four First Nations artists and will be presented at 167 ceremonies throughout the event.

The Games were founded about a decade ago by Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, to champion post-injury achievements of wounded, injured and sick military veterans and other service personnel.

He says in the news release that the medals represent "unity, courage and victory."

The event's opening ceremony will take place on Feb. 8. and feature artists including Katy Perry and Noah Kahan before athletes from 23 nations compete in 11 adaptive sporting events in Whistler and Vancouver.

This will be the second time Canada will host the Games, after Toronto in 2017.

Environment Canada says strong winds and heavy rain are expected overnight and into Monday for British Columbia's south coast. Ports in British Columbia are waking up to the possibility of another provincewide labour disruption as employers say they will lock out members of the union representing more than 700 foremen after it served a strike notice. The BC Maritime Employers Association says in a statement that it has issued a formal notice that it will "defensively" lock out members of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 514 starting Monday at 8 a.m.
