It's never too late! Edmonton man graduates from high school at age 90

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 09 May, 2014 01:14 PM

Walter Ross received two standing ovations Thursday night as he walked across the stage to accept his diploma along with his grandson and more than 300 teenagers present at the ceremony at St. Francis Xavier High School.

Ross, 90, had to leave school at the age of 16 in order to assist his family after his father suffered a heart attack. He pursued his studies through correspondence but failed in French.

However, after raising a family, serving in the military and enjoying a career in insurance, Ross decided to get that diploma.

It was just last week when Ross received the good news that he was invited to graduate alongside his grandson with St. Francis Xavier High School's Class of 2014.

Ross was dressed in a dapper suit and appeared emotional while talking about the years it took him to arrive at this stage.

"I cry when I'm happy," Ross said wiping his eyes.

He was accompanied by 10 family members comprising sons, daughters and grandkids who were by his side to support and cheer for him.
