Jason Kenney to introduce new Temporary Foreign Worker rules: report

Darpan News Desk Darpan, 16 May, 2014 12:09 PM
Federal Employment minister Jason Kenney will be brining in at least two new rules pertaining to businesses that want to hire temporary foreign workers, according to a CBC report.

One of these changes reportedly includes a rule where businesses bringing in temporary foreign workers would be required to pay those workers more.

The minister will also tie the number of temporary foreign workers a company is allowed to the unemployment rate, as per news reports.

This measure is aimed at making it harder for employers to hire temporary foreign workers in regions with high unemployment rates.

Meanwhile, Kenney's office has not confirmed the accuracy of these news reports.

In March, the government had barred restaurant chains from hiring temporary foreign workers.

At the time of the announcement, Kenney had mentioned that the government was considering unspecified reforms to the program in order to make sure employers recruit Canadians for jobs.
