WASHINGTON - Canada's new foreign affairs minister will be among the federal delegation joining Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for the North American Leaders' Summit.

Mélanie Joly is in Mexico City for meetings with counterpart Marcelo Ebrard before travelling to Washington, D.C., for the so-called Three Amigos summit Thursday.

Officials say Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland, International Trade Minister Mary Ng and Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino are also taking part.

Trudeau is scheduled to meet face-to-face with U.S. President Joe Biden and Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

It will be the first time the three leaders have met together in person since Canada hosted the last trilateral summit in 2016.

While Canada has a growing list of grievances with the Biden administration, experts say the primary goal of the meeting should be to re-establish and repair continental ties damaged during Donald Trump's presidency.
