Kayakers Find Human Remains After 19-Year-Old Delores Brown Goes Missing In B.C.

The Canadian Press, 20 Aug, 2015 01:43 PM
PENELAKUT ISLAND, B.C. — Police on Vancouver Island say they have contacted the family of a missing 19-year-old woman after human remains were found near where she was last seen.

RCMP have said Delores Brown was reportedly walking on Penelakut Island on July 27 and that foul play was involved in her disappearance.

Cpl. Darren Lagan says kayakers discovered the remains Wednesday on nearby Norway Island and the coroners service is working to identify them.

Lagan says police will contact the deceased person's next of kin when that process has been completed.

However, he says investigators have been in touch with Brown's family to prepare them for the possibility that the remains belong to her, given that nobody else has been reported missing in the area.

Two RCMP units as well as police air services and volunteers have participated in various searches for the First Nations woman.
