Landslide sets off evacuation order for those living along B.C.'s Chilcotin River

A landslide blocking a river in British Columbia's central Interior has injured a man and prompted the Cariboo Regional District to issue evacuation orders due to "immediate danger to life and safety" caused by flooding triggered by the slide.

The two evacuation orders span 107 square kilometres along the Chilcotin River southwest of the City of Williams Lake.

A spokesperson for the Central Cariboo Search and Rescue Team says the man was injured while trying to run away from the slide and he's being cared for by emergency health services personnel after a rescue operation that involved a helicopter.

The regional district has also declared a state of local emergency as it tells residents to gather their family and take anyone else who may need help to get out.

It says people should take available routes north to Highway 20 and east to Williams Lake.

The nearby Tsilhqot'in First Nation says in a statement on its Facebook page that it has activated its emergency operations centre to help those who need it.

Upon arrival, officers located a 40 year female and a 35 year old male, both suffering from stab wounds. Both individuals were transported to a local area hospital where the female is listed in critical condition, while the male is currently stable.

RCMP investigate shooting that killed one man in Sicamous

Police in British Columbia's Interior are asking for the public's help to identify a suspect vehicle after a man was fatally shot this weekend. A statement from the B.C. RCMP says the detachment in Sicamous, east of Kamloops, received a report of a shooting in the parking lot of the Best Western Hotel along the Trans-Canada Highway at about 4:50 p.m. on Saturday.

Female found deceased in residential fire

Surrey RCMP is assisting Surrey Fire Services following a fatal residential fire in Surrey. On Saturday at 05:20 am, Surrey RCMP received a report of a residential structure fire in the 15100-block of 88th Avenue. Police arrived on scene with the Surrey Fire Department and evacuated the occupants of neighboring residences.
