Man, 61 Charged With Attempting To Abduct Infant At Vancouver Grocery Store

The Canadian Press, 11 Jan, 2015 11:30 AM
VANCOUVER — A 61-year-old man is in custody after Vancouver police allege he attempted to abduct an infant.

Sgt. Randy Fincham says the incident occurred Saturday at a Commercial Drive grocery store.

He says the man tried to forcefully remove the infant from a stroller before he was stopped by the child's mother and another customer.

Sgt. Fincham says the man then left the store and threatened a second infant in a stroller a short distance away, but was stopped by concerned citizens.

The man is facing charges of attempted kidnapping, assault, and uttering threats.

Investigators believe mental health may have played a role in the troubling incident.
