Man arrested and charged for two bank robberies

Darpan News Desk Surrey RCMP, 07 Dec, 2020 11:16 PM
  • Man arrested and charged for two bank robberies

Surrey RCMP has arrested a 52-year-old man in connection with two bank robberies, which occurred in Whalley in November, and December 2020.

On November 12, 2020, just before 2 p.m., Surrey RCMP frontline officers responded to a report of a robbery at a bank in the 10300-block of City Parkway. A male suspect was able to obtain a small sum of cash before fleeing the scene. Police did not locate the suspect at that time.

On December 3, 2020, shortly before 5 p.m., officers responded to a report of another robbery with similar circumstances, this time at a bank in the 10100-block of King George Boulevard. In this incident, the male suspect was quickly located by Surrey RCMP frontline officers and placed under arrest. Carey Anthony L'Hirondelle of Surrey has now been charged with two counts of robbery in relation to these incidents.

Because robberies involve the use or threat of violence, the impact on victims is greater than just the loss of money or property, says Sergeant Ryan Forbes of the Surrey RCMP Robbery Unit.

Our unit will continue to work alongside frontline officers, conducting targeted enforcement to reduce the number of robberies in Surrey. For more information on how to protect yourself from personal robbery, please visit our Surrey RCMP website.
