Man Charged With Accessing Child Pornography In Edmonton Public Library

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 19 Mar, 2016 02:12 PM
EDMONTON — Police have charged an Edmonton man with child pornography offences after he was allegedly caught accessing images on a computer in a public library.

The Internet Child Exploitation team nabbed the suspect at his home in north Edmonton last week.

Police say the man was sitting in front of a computer at the Woodcroft branch on Feb. 19, when he was confronted by a staff member.

Workers called police but the man took off before officers arrived.

Police say they were able to identify the man through his online identity.

Daniel Kelbert, 42, faces charges of possessing and accessing child pornography.

Staff Sgt. Paul Czerwonka credits the library employee for acting quickly and calling police.

"The part that kind of concerns me personally actually, and everybody else, is that he was right beside the area where the kids congregate, where all the kids books are," Czerwonka said.

Kelbert, who was wanted on a parole violation at the time, remains in custody.
