Man Injured After Daytime Shooting In Surrey's Southpoint Exchange Mall

IANS, 28 Jul, 2017 03:23 PM

On July 27, 2017 at 3:30pm, Surrey RCMP received multiple calls regarding shots being fired in the 15200 block of 32 Avenue.

Once police arrived on scene they determined that a shooting had taken place. Multiple witnesses remained on scene and were canvassed. Police immediately identified that a male victim had fled on foot and a search of the area located the male a short distance away from the scene. The male was taken to a local area hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police are able to say at this time that this incident appears to have been targeted at the male victim. The male victim is known to police for his involvement in criminal behaviour.

While police were canvassing the area they identified that a commercial building, a residential building, and a motor vehicle were all struck by bullets. Police have confirmed that no other persons were harmed.

The Surrey Gang Enforcement Team (SGET) together with the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU-BC) are assisting with this investigation and have been engaged in extensive proactive enforcement in relation to the recent increase in shootings in the city.

The investigation is still in its early stages. Officers continue to collect evidence and conduct neighbourhood canvassing to obtain further information.

"Police are actively seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed this incident and have not yet spoken to police. Their information may be the one piece that completes the puzzle," says Staff Sergeant Dale Carr. "This incident once again demonstrates the lack of respect and concern that people engaged in this behaviour have for the community.

Anyone with further information, who has not already spoken to police is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers, if they wish to remain anonymous, at 1-800-222-TIPS.
