BURNABY, B.C. — British Columbia's police watchdog is investigating a shooting involving the Burnaby RCMP that sent one man to hospital.

The Independent Investigations Office says RCMP officers driving on patrol at about 3 a.m Sunday saw what appeared to be a robbery underway in a 7-Eleven (near Canada Way and Edmonds Street).

Mounties say the officers engaged two men and attempted to make an arrest, but shots were fired and the men subsequently fled in a vehicle.

The vehicle was found after it crashed (near Canada Way and Rosewood Avenue).

One of the men is believed to have sustained a gunshot wound and is in hospital receiving treatment, while the other man was taken into custody without incident.

The IIO investigates in police-related incidents involving death or serious harm, and the office has sent a team of investigators to the 7-Eleven and the collision site.
