Man who jumped off Alex Fraser Bridge couldn't have been saved: IIO

British Columbia's police watchdog has found that officers could not have prevented the death of a man who jumped off a bridge in Delta this week.
The Independent Investigations Office of B-C says that officers responded to a call on Monday to find the man in distress and standing outside the railing on the side of the Alex Fraser Bridge.
It says officers attempted to communicate with the man but efforts to get him to leave the bridge were unsuccessful.
Richmond -R-C-M-P say the scam -- in which fraudsters try to convince seniors that a loved one is in trouble and needs money -- has been around for years. But recently they say scammers have started using artificial intelligence and digital manipulation to alter the voice in the phone call in order to sound more authentic.
Mounties on Vancouver Island say two people have been killed in the crash of a small plane northwest of Tofino. The B.C. Ambulance Service says two others were injured.

Witnesses told police, the suspect was seen approaching the victim wearing a mask and carrying a baseball bat. The suspect then allegedly hit the victim with the bat and kicked him before fleeing on foot with a group of 4-5 youths. Bystanders provided first aid to the 18-year man until such time that emergency first responders arrived on scene.
