  • Man who says he caused peace officer's death not criminally responsible: defence

CALGARY — A man charged with murdering an Alberta peace officer more than two years ago has admitted he caused the man's death.

But the defence lawyer for Trevor Kloschinsky (kloh-SHIHN'-skee) says her client is not criminally responsible in the death of Rod Lazenby on a Calgary-area rural property in August 2012.

An agreed statement of facts read at Kloschinsky's first-degree murder trial said he brought Lazenby, handcuffed and unconscious, to a Calgary police station.

The statement says Kloschinsky told officers someone had been trying to steal his dogs and he had caught him and brought him to police.

He also said the man he apprehended looked rough and they should check on him.

Court heard an autopsy found Lazenby died of strangulation and had external and internal injuries
